Vijaya Nirmala is a famous South Indian actress and director. In 2002, the Guinness Book of Records named her the most prolific female director for having directed 42 feature films.
Vijaya Nirmala from her first marriage has one son, actor Naresh. In 1969, she married Superstar Krishna, even though he was already married to his first wife Indira and with whom he has five children. She has indicated that she has an amiable relationship with her husband's first wife Indira and her children.

Vijaya Nirmala's entry into the film industry was as a child artiste in Panduranga Mahatmyam (1957) at the age of 7. She became a heroine through a Malayalam movie 'Bhargavi Nilayam'. She debuted as a heroine in Telugu industry through a Telugu film Rangula Ratnam. Her debut film in Tamil was Engaveettu Penn, which was followed by memorable movies like Panama Paasama, En Annan with MGR, Gnanaoli with Sivaji and Uyira Maanama with Jaisanker, among others. She met her second husband Superstar Krishna on Saakshi (1967), and they would star together in 47 films. She was instrumental in launching her niece the popular actress Jayasudha, and also Vijayashanti on the silver screen. To date, she has acted in over 250 films in the three South Indian languages. Her small screen debut came with Balaji Telefilms Pelli Kanuka. Soon after, she launched her own banner Vijaya Krishna Movies and produced 15 films. She made her directional debut with a malayalam movie with a budget of 3lakhs. She made her directorial debut in Telugu with Meena and directed more than 40 films in Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. Currently the actress-director is based in Hyderabad and is managing Padmalaya Studios and Padmalaya Telefilms Ltd, belonging to her actor-husband Superstar Krishna.
