Algebra exam: 3 teachers arrested for solving SSC paper

AURANGABAD: Three high school teachers and one lab assistant were arrested from a school in Kannad taluka on Tuesday morning after they were allegedly caught solving the Algebra paper about 20 minutes before the exam had started.

Acting on a tip off, a Kannad police squad reached New High School in Kannad, about 60km from Aurangabad, at 10.40am and found the three teachers and the lab assistant busy solving the SSC algebra paper in the headmaster's cabin. The examination was scheduled to begin at 11 am. One teacher, who allegedly took the paper out of the pile of question papers before it was distributed among students, is absconding.

The accused had already solved four questions before they were caught by the squad, which also recovered carbon copies of the solved answers, handbooks and a copy of algebra question paper in Marathi. The police have registered a case of copying against the three teachers and the lab assistant who were caught solving the SSC algebra question paper before the exam had started in a school located in Kannad taluka on Tuesday.

The examination centre chief Dnyaneshwar Chintaman Mistry lodged a complaint with the Kannad police and a case under sections 7 and 8 of Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices at University, Board and Other Specified Examinations Act of 1982 was registered.

Police summoned the examination centre chief and question papers were counted. One paper was found missing.

Officials said the examination centre was allotted 35 packets of question papers comprising 12 packets of question papers in Marathi, 12 in English and a couple of them in Urdu language.

Kannad sub divisional police officer Pritam Yavalkar told TOI, "The absconding accused will be caught soon. We are trying to find out how such an illegal activity was going on openly within the school premises." The Kannad police station is located barely 100m from the school. Police maintained that the bandobast at the school was sufficient.
